The vote is tomorrow afternoon 12/10/09!!! "I am calling in reference to S3053 on electronic cigarettes. I would like to know where the Senator stands. I am strongly opposed to this bill in it's current form and although I support restricting the age of sales to 19 and over, I STRONGLY oppose including it under the indoor clean air act as it does not produce smoke. Thank you for your time today" HTML Code:

Spikey,
I just tried emailing all of them twice, and both times I got message failures back. Error message was "551: relaying denied (state 17)" |

The bill (S3053) would prohibit vaping anywhere smoking is prohibited. We can't back down on this! We want to *encourage* vaping, not make it more difficult!
There's another bill they're voting on that would prohibit sales to minors. Of course we support that. ![]() This covers the entire state of New Jersey, so we've got to be heard. ![]() Here's what I sent: Dear Senator: I'm writing to urge you to please vote NO on S3053, the bill that would prohibit the use of electronic "cigarettes" wherever tobacco cigarettes are prohibited. I hope you'll consider this carefully, and that you'll look to science--not politics--to help you make your final decision. Here's what four scientific authorities have to say about banning the use of electronic "cigarettes" in public places (emphasis is mine): - Dr. David Baron, former Chief of Staff at UCLA Medical Center, appeared in a video about the electronic cigarette, Smoke-Stik: All that's happening is you're heating up a liquid to the point of becoming a vapor. So referring to it as smoke doesn't make sense at all. Therefore, considering it subject to a smoking ban doesn't really make sense, either." - From Dr. Michael Siegel, Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Boston University School of Public Health, who also has 20 years of experience in Tobacco Control: "There is no existing evidence that e-cigarettes pose a risk for nonsmokers. The nicotine exposure from the exhaled vapor produced is likely to be extremely small and there is no reason to think that it poses a danger for nonsmokers. But there is certainly no evidence to suggest that it poses a hazard." - From Dr. Carl Phillips, Associate Professor at the University of Alberta School of Public Health: "The claim that the trivial amount of vapor would be much of a risk seems ridiculously far-fetched." - From Dr. Brad Rodu, Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville: "Claiming that e-cigarettes are dangerous for non-smokers is about as credible as claiming that air travel is dangerous for people who never set foot in an airplane." As you can see, banning the use of electronic "cigarettes" in places where tobacco smoke is prohibited has no basis in science and is in direct opposition to any policy truly concerned with public health, which surely should include anything that dissuades people from inhaling tobacco smoke, as electronic "cigarettes" do. S3053 would seem to be opposed to the mere appearance of smoking, which is a political and moral issue--not a public health issue--and as such, oversteps the boundaries of the legislative process. Thank you for your consideration. Kind regards,

"551 relaying denied" Mail Block - Relay Denied (MBRD):
Indicates that the recipient's email server is blocking email from our email server. Perhaps because it looks like spam or recipients server doesn’t allow for list mailings, idk. Also note that the consensed list in Spikey’s post is corrupted. Workaround might be individual mails. |

Ihdk, but could be that they don’t allow for e-mails originating from outside their “contact” web pages, to prevent spam submissions.
May have to use the official contact formulas, to be found here: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/SelectMun.asp |
